US Homeland Security Advisor: Yemen is the only country to transfer power peacefully

US National Security Advisor for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism and President Barak Obama’s assistant, John Brenan, said Yemen is the only country in the region to transfer power peacefully, and called the Yemenis to take pride in what they have achieved.
Brenan said, in a press conference held on Sunday at the US embassy in the Yemeni capital of Sana’a, that “Yemen is at the start of a new era, and that it has proved to be able of moving from the past to the future through the ballot boxes”, (referring to Tuesday’s polls).

He noted that he has delivered a message from US President to Vice President Abdu Rabu Mansour Hadi, the only candidate for the upcoming elections, in which Obama indicated that Yemen set an example of the peaceful transfer of power in the Middle East.

“My visit aimed to show the US administration’s commitment towards Yemen,” said Brenan, pointing out that the relationship between the two friendly countries is not based on leaders and followers, rather on Yemen’s stability, security and unity.
