Juan Montoya initiates a fiery inferno at the Daytona 500
And the Daytona 500 has been stopped again. This time the race was halted because of a fiery explosion which was caused when Juan Montoya’s car slammed into a jet dryer under caution.
It’s the most recent mess to hamper the Great American Race. The Daytona 500, NASCAR’s season-opening race has already seen the troubles of a lifetime. For the first time in its 54-year history, the race got postponed from Sunday to Monday, all because Mother Nature wasn’t kind enough to stop the rain for a few hours.
Anyway, the Montoya-saga at Daytona 500 occurred when something of his car broke and he started sliding out of control towards a truck that was holding 200 gallons of jet kerosene. Luckily, for Montoya and the rest of the pack, the 36-year-old driver was driving well behind the rest of the field.
Montoya was unable to steer safe his No. 42 Chevrolet as it slid towards the truck and struck with the sound of crunching metal and a loud blast. The accident set off an explosion which sent fuel and fire flying all around the crime scene. Hence, the famous Daytona track was on fire, literally today.
Montoya got out of the wreckage unharmed, however he was staggering as paced around on the infield grass. The driver seems to be hurt as he was helped out from the vehicle.
